County hall

In the largest building in the middle of the square, there housed the County Administration Centre, once also the County Court and Prison. Its facade is decorated with a relief of the coat-of-arms of the Liptov County, the staircase is illuminated by beautiful stained glass windows designed by Ester Šimerová-Martinčeková.

Although the construction of this majestic building began as early as 1778, it was completed in 1793 by the master bricklayer Peter Grossmann from Banská Bystrica. After devastating fires in April 1878 and July 1883, it was reconstructed, and another floor was added in 1907 according to the drawings of the royal architect Imrich Legman. Then it took on its current form. Now its premises mainly serve the District Office. In front of the County Hall there is a large space where life has always pulsated. In the past, Tuesday markets took place there, as well as fairs several times a year, and it was also a place for the townspeople to welcome guests - for example, President Benes in 1936. Today, this area is the centre of traditional events like County Days, Mikuláš´s Fair, Potato Feast, Mikuláš´s Summer and many others.
