Our Mother Statue
Created by Alojz Štróbl, a native of the Liptov region and a leading figure in Hungarian sculpture, the statue is registered in the Louvre, Paris as a work belonging to the most perfect sculptures in the world. Its bronze casting is exhibited in front of the Liptov Gallery of P. M. Bohúň.

The statue represents the beloved mother of the artist as he remembered her sitting in a chair in front of the house in Kráľova Lehota,with a bible in her lap. Photographs of the statue as a symbol of maternal love have long been sold in the USA, especially for Mother's Day. The marble original is on display in the Hungarian National Gallery.
Alojz Štróbl (1856-1926) was the first Hungarian sculptor to have the Emperor Franz Joseph to sit as a model. He created more than 600 sculptures and paintings. One of the most admired is the 12-meter-high monumental fountain group „Fountain of King Matthias“ at Buda Castle, Budapest. He was the first in Hungary to create animal sculptures. Their appearance is very faithful, as the modelswere real or caught animals. This is also evidenced by the Wounded Wild Boar statue, which is also located in front of the entrance to the Liptov Gallery. Although Štróbl worked mainly at the University of Sculpture in Budapest, where he became director at the age of 31, he was happy to return to Liptov. He surprised his surroundings with eccentric behaviour. In his hometown of KralovaLehota, he organized processions and hunts for his guests in historical costumes; at Christmas he used to sing carol around Liptov villages, even in a traditional costume - „krpce“ (peasant´s shoes) and a shirt; he travelled to Rome to copy Michelangelo's statue of Moses.
